After graduating from The University of Texas at Arlington with a BFA and a minor in Graphic Communication, I stood at a crossroads – Fine Art or Advertising. The path I followed led to a 30-year advertising career. My time as a Creative Director allowed me to see the art in typography, graphics and how they work together to be their own form of fine art. The appeal I found in the many distressed and neglected billboards along the roads I've traveled are a testament to that. They fade beautifully into abstract art on an epic scale when you take the time to look at them. Representing them in a gallery setting is a long-standing passion of mine as I blend my advertising background into the fine art realm.
In 2022, I retired from that career and moved to Southwest Florida to begin my journey as a fine artist. The newly discovered natural canvas before me has provided other inspirations. I look broadly and microscopically to find patterns and details easily overlooked by passersby. These influences are now merging into my paintings and drawings in a contemporary, graphic artistic style.
My inspirations come from many sources. I look at old, faded signage and splatters on dumpsters as abstract art in real life. The landscape and wildlife in Southwest Florida also presents many abstract shapes for me explore. Here is a collection of those inspirations.
This is a fun collection of digital artwork that illustrates the new direction and transformation of my art. It is a combination of my graphic art training mixed with the Florida scenery. (Plus a little bit of my love for Matisse and Dr. Seuss.
